Where the money actually goes
Catering and bar are the only lines that scale with every guest you add, and together they are 45 to 60% of a typical Portugal wedding budget. Everything else is mostly fixed, which produces the counterintuitive math the calculator shows: per-guest cost falls as the wedding grows. How much does a wedding in Portugal cost?
€18,000 to €45,000 for 100 guests in 2026 at quality venues with full catering, the range this calculator brackets. Catering is the largest line: €55 to €180 per guest depending on format, plus €18 to €35 per guest for the bar.
Why is the per-guest cost higher for small weddings?
Venue, photography, flowers and music are mostly fixed costs. At 40 guests they spread thick; at 140 they spread thin. That is why growing the guest list often costs less per head than couples expect.
Is Portugal cheaper than the UK or US for a wedding?
Typically 40 to 60% cheaper for equivalent quality, which is the engine of the destination wedding market here. The savings concentrate in venue and catering; flights and travel eat a small part of it back.
What does the catering line include?
In serious quotes: food, staff, tableware, setup and cleanup, at €55 to €90 per guest for cocktail formats up to €120 to €180 for fine dining. The bar is itemised separately, €18 to €35 per guest for open-bar packages.
What is missing from this estimate?
Rings, honeymoon, legal fees and guest travel, which vary too much to bracket honestly. Add a 5 to 10% contingency on top of the total; every real wedding finds a way to use it.
