Birthday dinner at home vs the restaurant reservation
The restaurant version of a milestone birthday has a script: a long table, a rushed toast between courses, the bill ballet at the end. The at-home version rewrites it: one table that is actually yours, courses paced to the conversation, music you chose, and no closing time. Two of the most common briefs we receive are exactly this, a 40th in a Cascais villa and a family birthday at a holiday rental, both for tables of 10 to 14.
How the birthday booking works
Send the date, the venue and the headcount; the proposal arrives within 24 hours with a fixed price per guest and a menu draft to react to. The kitchen adapts to your home or rental, dietary requirements across the table are standard, and the night ends with the kitchen cleaner than we found it. For birthdays that grow into parties of 20-plus, the dinner party format scales into stations, bar service and a longer night.

How much does a private chef for a birthday dinner cost?
€90–160 per guest in 2026 for a 3–4 course dinner, all-in: menu design, ingredients, chef and service team, setup and cleanup. A birthday table of 12 lands at €1,080–1,920; tasting menus run €120–180 per guest.
Can the menu be built around the birthday person?
That is the point of the format: favourite ingredients, a dish from a meaningful trip, a dessert moment with or without candles, printed menus with their name on it. Tell us who they are and the menu does the rest.
Do you do surprise dinners?
Yes, and we are good accomplices: arrival timed while they are out, kitchen quiet until the reveal, and coordination with whoever is doing the distracting.
What about milestone birthdays, 40th and 50th?
Milestones are half our birthday bookings: bigger tables, wine pairing, sometimes a second day of recovery brunch. For groups beyond 20 the same kitchen scales into full event catering.
