A proposal dinner with a crew that has done this before
The difference between a proposal dinner and a nice dinner is choreography. Somebody has to know the plan: when service vanishes, when the music changes, which pocket the ring is in and what happens if it starts to rain. That somebody is us. You brief one person once, and the evening runs on rails you never see: arrival timed, courses paced toward the moment, the question asked in a pause that was engineered to exist, and a bottle already cold for what follows. The menu is built from your story; the logistics are built from our repetitions.
Settings: villa, cliff, garden or on the water
Portugal is unfairly equipped for this. A villa terrace gives privacy and a plan B under the same roof. Sintra gardens and Algarve cliff-tops give drama, with permissions and weather plans handled as part of the setup. And the water option, a table for two at anchor at golden hour, is the one guests describe as unreal: we covered how it works in our guide to a private dinner on the water in Lisbon, and the same format runs off the Algarve. Wherever the table goes, the answer tends to be yes; the dinner's job is to make the asking unforgettable.

Proposal dinners, questions
How much does a private chef proposal dinner cost?
Honestly stated: tables for two are priced against a minimum spend, typically the equivalent of 6 to 8 covers, so €720–1,280 all-in at 2026 rates for a fine-dining dinner with full service. The team, the shopping and the setup are the same whether two people eat or ten, which is what the minimum reflects.
How does the ring moment actually work?
However you want it, but the version that works: between the main course and dessert, when the table is calm and the light is right. The crew is briefed, the pause is engineered, service disappears on cue, and dessert arrives to a changed table. Rings have travelled to the table in domes, on menus and in dessert courses; simplest is usually best.
Can you coordinate a photographer?
Yes, and we recommend it: a photographer briefed on the timeline shoots from distance through the moment, then joins for portraits. We coordinate timing directly so nobody checks a phone. If you do not have one, we can suggest photographers we have worked alongside.
Where do proposal dinners happen?
Villas and homes first, then cliff-top and garden setups where permissions allow, and on the water: a table for two at anchor on the Tagus or the Algarve coast is close to cheat-proof. Weather plans come standard for every outdoor setting.
Do you do anniversary and vow-renewal dinners too?
Constantly: milestone anniversaries, vow renewals and just-because dinners for two run on the same format and the same minimum-spend pricing, with menus that can resurrect the restaurant, the dish or the wine from the story you tell us.
How far ahead should this be planned?
Two to three weeks is comfortable and keeps the secret manageable. Sunset-dependent outdoor settings deserve more in summer; short notice is always worth asking, conspiracies excite us.
