"Villa with private chef" is one of the most-searched luxury phrases in the Algarve and one of the least understood: with a handful of exceptions, villas do not come with chefs. They come chef-ready, real kitchens, dining terraces, space for a service team, and the chef is a second booking layered on top. That is good news, not bad: it means any great villa can become a staffed one.

We are the chef layer, not a villa agency, so this guide has no stake in which rental company you choose. What follows is where the genuinely chef-ready villas live, ranked by what each source does best. Verify availability and current terms directly with each; portfolios move season to season.

01

SandyBlue

Best for: Hand-picked golden triangle villas with concierge support

An Almancil-based agency running 5-star pool villas across Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo, Dunas Douradas and Vilamoura since 2006, with a concierge arm that arranges transfers, groceries and chef requests. The strongest single starting point for a staffed golden-triangle stay.

Pros
  • Curated portfolio, villas are visited and hand-picked rather than aggregated
  • Concierge culture: chef and service requests are normal, not exotic
  • Deep golden triangle coverage including large villas sleeping 12 to 14
Cons
  • Concentrated on the central Algarve; thin west of Albufeira
  • Premium pricing consistent with the postcode
02

Quinta do Lago (official resort rentals)

Best for: Staying inside the resort with estate infrastructure

Booking through the resort's own rental and real estate arm puts you inside the estate proper: security, golf priority, and villas built with entertaining kitchens that make a chef team's job easy.

Pros
  • In-resort address with estate services and access
  • Villas specified for entertaining, real kitchens and staff-friendly layouts
Cons
  • The most contested calendar in the Algarve, summer books far ahead
  • Top of the market on price
03

Vale do Lobo Resort (The Residences)

Best for: Beachfront resort living with villa privacy

The Algarve's original resort development rents its own portfolio of residences and villas across 450 beachfront acres, with resort facilities (golf, spa, tennis) attached to a private-villa stay.

Pros
  • Two kilometres of beachfront and resort amenities included in the address
  • Official operator, consistent standards across the portfolio
Cons
  • Resort atmosphere rather than seclusion
  • Villa styles vary widely across a 1,500-residence development, study the specific property
04

The Villa Collection

Best for: Curated international-standard villas across the Algarve

A luxury villa specialist with a curated Algarve portfolio spanning Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago, Albufeira and Ferragudo, aimed at travellers who want the boutique-agency experience rather than a marketplace scroll.

Pros
  • Editorially curated rather than volume-listed
  • Coverage extends beyond the golden triangle, including Ferragudo and Albufeira
Cons
  • Smaller portfolio means less choice on peak weeks
05

Villas-Algarve

Best for: Privacy-focused villa hunting

A rental specialist with strong Vale do Lobo coverage and useful curation filters, including collections built specifically around villas with extra privacy, which is precisely what a staffed dinner or a milestone week wants.

Pros
  • Privacy-led curation, rare and genuinely useful
  • Solid central Algarve depth
Cons
  • Less concierge hand-holding than the full-service agencies
06

Premier Villas

Best for: Breadth across the price ladder

A long-running villa agency with Algarve coverage from comfortable four-bedroom houses to serious estates, useful when the group's budget and the group's ambitions are still negotiating.

Pros
  • Wide price range without leaving the quality floor
  • Good for larger mixed groups comparing tiers
Cons
  • Broader portfolio means more variance, read each listing hard
07

Dunas Douradas Beach Club

Best for: Beachfront apartments and villas between QdL and Vale do Lobo

The beachfront enclave between the two big resorts, renting its own villas and apartments with the dunes at the door, a quieter alternative to the resort centres with the same coastline.

Pros
  • Genuine beachfront position
  • Quieter than the resort hubs either side
Cons
  • Smaller properties on average, check kitchen and dining specs for big group dinners

The chef layer: how food attaches to whichever villa you book

Here is the part we do have a stake in, disclosed plainly. Whichever agency or resort you book through, the chef service attaches the same way: you send us the villa's address, kitchen photos and your headcount, and the food side of the stay is handled, one standout dinner, a run of evenings, or the whole week.

Three formats cover almost every villa stay. The single dinner party for the birthday or the last night, €90 to €160 per guest all-in. The villa chef arrangement for the whole stay, dinner-only or full board at €110 to €190 per guest per day with groceries included. And the poolside barbecue in between. Villa managers and concierges at every agency above can hand us the brief directly; it is how a fair share of our Algarve dinners already arrive. The villa decides the view. The chef layer decides how the week eats.

Booked the villa? The kitchen is next.

Send the villa, dates and headcount, and a written proposal for the dinner or the whole stay arrives within 24 hours.

Frequently asked questions

Do Algarve villas come with a private chef included?

Rarely. Villas come chef-ready (real kitchens, dining terraces, space for a team) and the chef is a separate booking layered on top, arranged directly or through the agency's concierge. That means any great villa can become a staffed one.

Which areas have the most chef-ready luxury villas?

The golden triangle: Quinta do Lago, Vale do Lobo and Dunas Douradas, followed by Vilamoura and the villa country around Albufeira and Carvoeiro. Agencies like SandyBlue and the official resort rental arms concentrate exactly there.

How much does the chef add to a villa week?

A single dinner for 12 runs €1,080 to €1,920 all-in (€90 to €160 per guest). A full week of dinner-only or full-board service runs €110 to €190 per guest per day, groceries included. The villa and the chef remain separate bills.

Can the villa agency book the chef for us?

Usually yes: concierge teams at the established agencies arrange chef service routinely, and briefs regularly reach us through villa managers. Booking direct works identically; either way the kitchen gets the villa's address, photos and your dietary matrix.

When should villa and chef be booked?

The villa first and early, 6 to 12 months for peak golden-triangle weeks. The chef layer follows comfortably at 3 to 6 weeks out, earlier for Christmas, New Year and August Saturdays.
